I'm kinda glad Jon Snow is dead. I liked what he stood for but it was kinda getting lame with him just walking around doing really nothing.

I wanted to type this up while it was still fresh in my head. To preface this review, let me state that I did see the original Jurassic Park in theaters back in 1993 as well as the subsequent films. However, this will not affect the reviews. At the beginning of the film I got a sense of what I was in for, and that came from the two kids, aka the “target audience.” And that’s what those two kids were. They were taking the younger generations along for the ride into the hellish nightmare of being trapped on Dinosaur Island. Of course they threw us older kids some bones by showing us the older park that was in the restricted zone.


Overall I think I liked the movie, but didn’t love it. Above all the components of the film, what I actually loved the most was the park itself. From a facilities point of view, I was giddy to the attention to detail of the park. The minute things you would see make the realism so much more engrossing. I kind of liked that they tried new things with the trained raptors, but I wish that the last surviving raptor would have come with the human group was they walked into the sunset, so to speak. I liked the younger kid, I thought he was one of the better human parts of the movie, his smile and enthusiasm to shit that wasn’t there felt rather authentic and it kind of felt that you were sitting next to him seeing this stuff for the first time. The I-rex was a neat twist to the old standard of reusing the same go to predators. I liked that they added a mystery as to what the hell it and spelling it out for you at the beginning so the audience cant build a narrative in their heads about the I rex’s abilities and how it would be exploited. Like previously stated in the introduction, I liked the throw back to the original park and seeing the little memorable pieces I didn’t really have a problem with the characters for once and that was a miracle. All of the main characters balances off pretty well and evetyone seemed to have a helping hand and not seem useless.




The first thing right off the bat when the final act was rolling around was the actual lack of screen time the dinosaurs actually had. I am not sure of the actual runtime, but dinosaurs had maybe lass than half the screen time. I guess I can understand given the CGI costs, but I would have liked to see more, especially species that had yet to be seen in the previous films. In terms of the pacing, I felt the human aspects were too drawn out and stretched the film longer than it had to do. It took me way too long in the film to like the teenage brother, but he had a emotional flip by the end of the film, much like other films, almost trope-ish in nature. One thing I noticed during the chaos was the selective killing on the directors part. It was clear to me that none of the park goers were getting killed, just the employees. Even during the pteranadon(spelling) scenes people were getting picked up and dropped cause we are too heavy, but the people were getting injured, but not killed. NOT ONE PARK GOER WAS EATEN. If we saw dead park goers I believe it would have helped raise the suspense and tension with the audience. Another thing that was missing was the gore. This is a thing that the previous films had that this film was missing. 99% of the human deaths were off-screen and out of focus. On the business side of this park, what gets me is that there was no government oversight to oversee things when shit hit the fan. After all these previous films, it was almost comical that they pretty much learned nothing from the other incidents. A smart person would have the government come in a build an army base on the island with emergency barges/landing craft and helicopters to get people off the island, not huddle them in the open for a day in the middle of the park. Shit tier emergency plans indeed. Last thing though, is the head of the park somehow trouncing through the jungle at full sprint, in heels. That was a truly WTF moment. Not once did she say, maybe I should get some fucking sneakers. I was hoping she would have sprained an ankle as a consequence to that stupidity.

Besides its heaping piles of faults, I think it works as a simple popcorn flick. It’s a piece of nostalgic driven entertainment. It certainly had, at its core, more heart than the bayformer flicks by far. But it is clear, as a sign of the times, which the movie felt too safe to me, which the elements that made the original flicks so frightening were brought down a few notches. I feel that the film could have gone further that’s all. It makes me curious if we get a sequel from this. Now, would I recommend this? Yes, if you needed something to watch for a few hours, but not as a piece of cinematic art to analyze.
